I told the guys I was going to write up a little blurb and put it on the front page of the site. "I'll write something about the various scheduling conflicts and changes and such," I said. Yup, and while I'm at it, I'm going to throw in a little of how 2009, in less than two months, hasn't exactly started off on the right foot, either. But maybe there is SOME good news... more in a moment!
Yes, in the Fall of 2008 and going into Winter and Spring 2009, we have been booking gigs right along! However, several have been cancelled due to various concerns - ranging from conflicts to lack of funding, to familial responsibilities. Yep, The Custodians, our fans, and yes, even our potential employers have had to draw in the purse strings, so to speak. Personally, I was suffering from bronchitis in November and December and then was laid off the 1st of December, and just last week found another position. (Thank God!) That's the full-time day job that keeps me fed and warm... and money is tight in my home, too.
Then there's the things that go awry at the worst of times. Point of fact - a couple weeks back not only did my septic system freeze up, I also lost the transmission in my clothes washer! Now, I can live without the washer and go to the laundromat, but not having a septic system... well, we had to buy a portable toilet and will have to wait till spring to get the septic system fixed... not my idea of a good way to start the year!
But on the good side, we've (The Custodians) added some new gear that improves our sound even more, plus of course we've added our new sound man, Mike, who is also pushing us to market ourselves more. And yes, I got a new position that pays more than my old one (fancy that!) and I'm hoping to actually be able to fix up this old house, finally! Starting as soon as the ground thaws with a septic system fix!
We're still here and we're still practicing and adding new tunes, and we have many upcoming shows and events, so don't fret! Come see us, and maybe you'll see a new side of the Custodians with several of our new tunes. And we all sincerely hope your 2009 has started off, and remains, better than ours!!!
